Connect Amazon SES

TL;DR
  • Host email-smtp..amazonaws.com for the AWS Region you verified your domain in, port 587.
  • Use SES SMTP credentials, not your AWS access key and secret.
  • New SES accounts start in the sandbox and can only send to verified addresses until you request production access.
Setting Value
Host email-smtp.<region>.amazonaws.com, for example email-smtp.us-east-1.amazonaws.com
Port 587 (leave Use secure (TLS/SSL) off, STARTTLS is used) or 465 (turn it on)
Username Your SES SMTP user name
Password Your SES SMTP password

Use the Region where your sending domain is verified. SMTP credentials only work in the Region they were created for.

  1. Open the Amazon SES console and choose SMTP settings.
  2. Choose Create SMTP credentials and create the IAM user it suggests.
  3. Copy the SMTP user name and password into FlowSend. AWS shows the password only once.

Your SMTP password is not your AWS secret access key. See AWS’s guide to obtaining SES SMTP credentials.

  • Verify your domain in SES and publish the DKIM records it gives you.
  • Leave the sandbox. Sandbox accounts can only send to verified addresses, so request production access before emailing customers.
  • Send from an address on the verified domain.
