Connect Outlook or Microsoft 365

TL;DR
  • Outlook.com: host smtp-mail.outlook.com, port 587.
  • Microsoft 365: host smtp.office365.com, port 587; SMTP AUTH must be allowed for the mailbox.
  • If your organisation has turned off SMTP AUTH, use a sending service such as SendGrid.
Account type Host Port
Outlook.com / Hotmail smtp-mail.outlook.com 587 (STARTTLS)
Microsoft 365 (work or school) smtp.office365.com 587 (STARTTLS)

Leave Use secure (TLS/SSL) off for port 587. Use the full email address as the username.

Microsoft is phasing out basic authentication for SMTP in Microsoft 365, and many organisations already block it. Ask your admin whether Authenticated SMTP (SMTP AUTH) is enabled for the sending mailbox. If it isn’t, connect a sending service like SendGrid using your domain instead.
